A letter to my children deep from within my heart...
To my sons Mikey and Brandon:
You are both the most special people in my life, no comparison! You each have unique personalities and talents that amaze me every day. I know that you came into this world for a purpose that is unique to both of you and the world is and will be a better place because of you.
There's a lesson I've learned so far in this life: that when you can impact one person-by helping them in any way that you were called to help them-that's all it takes to make a big difference. Why? Because that person will do the same one day for someone else and onwards it goes. We change the world one person at a time, that's how it works. My hope and prayer is that you will see how important you are in this life, not just to me or your dad and the rest of the family but to the people that you will impact in the future.
I would like to share with both of you why I believe what I believe-my testimony:
I grew up believing in God because my parents first taught me that. I went to church and even a catholic school for almost 3 years. These things helped the foundation of my faith. Yet when I was 18 I knew there was more to it than what I knew thus far. You see I wasn't religious but you can say that I did have a religion. But I knew deep inside that there had to be more. I had to go deeper to find out what the purpose of life is all about. I began (with the help of other friends) to study the bible and I began to learn about the impact of the life of Jesus. As I read about all of the things He did and how he loved people he became suddenly more real to me than ever. We know he is a historical figure but he was and is so much more than that. YET NO one can convince you of this just by words-I'll guarantee you that. It is you that will one day have to search for yourselves if you want to find out the truth. You see, in this world it's easy to choose to believe whatever your emotions tell you to believe. It's also easier to choose the way most people do-it's the "easy" way-at least in the moment it is (consequences though are often regretted). But wise men know that we should not always trust our emotions as they are unsteady and not always reliable. Faith is something difficult to obtain because we trust our physical senses and if we don't see it it's hard to believe it. That's why there are not too many true believers out there. Sure, you'll meet many religious people but look at their lives. Study the way they react and treat others on a daily basis. See if there is true love in their hearts for people-see if they sacrifice for the sake of others. Notice if they give to others without being asked to give...if they show mercy and forgiveness.
My boys, my prayer and heart's desire is that one day you will both study out the life of Jesus. Not because I tell you to but because you want to. The day that God chooses to call me to be with him (whenever that is) , just know that I'll still be watching over you and I will be in your hearts always.
Remember that there are no coincidences in life, each process has a purpose. I pray for you every day and can see how much God has protected you. Maybe you have doubts now about what I'm telling you. That's okay and it's normal since faith can take time and it is a journey. One day I know deep inside that you will understand everything I'm telling you and have taught you.
To my daughter Kezia Abigail (who will be born today):
I am so excited to meet you in just a few hours! I have to admit I have no idea how to be a mommy to a daughter. I mean I think it's the same principle as with my sons-your brothers, but I am a bit nervous about being able to be a good loving and tender mother with you. My hope and prayer is that you can feel loved every day by me and your dad and that you learn that God our heavenly father has given you as gift to us. He placed you in our lives trusting us to raise you and keep you safe.
I look forward to teaching you all I know and also what I believe. I also look forward to learning from you. Yes, parents learn from their children too!
I want to tell you that you have in Fernando an amazing father and person. He is unlike any man I've ever known. He loves from the heart. He is sacrificial and always gives to others in need. He makes me feel like the most loved woman in the world! He's super intelligent and full of incredible faith in God. He walks the walk, he doesn't just talk the talk. He's respectful, kind, strong, funny, affectionate, patient (yes he's patient even if/when gets upset with you at times because all parents do:)).
I want you to know that he's loved you ever since the day he found out he would be a daddy.
I already love you so much and I can't wait to hold you in my arms and tell you in person. You will be born with a purpose in your life. God has an amazing plan for you. I look forward to watching you grow up into a magnificent woman!
With love always for my 3 wonderful children,
Your mom/mama
